Interested in Educational Advocacy in Alabama?
Through the NLL fellowship, BA4E aims to heighten awareness and understanding of the community through exposure to past, present and future issues of importance facing education in Alabama . This fellowship seeks to provide leaders with knowledge to address education issues and identify the skills necessary to effect change in the educational landscape. By triggering deep collaboration, NLL can bring forth excellent choices for all students and their families.
WHY CHOOSE BLACK ALABAMIANS FOR EDUCATION?
One of Black Alabamians for Education fundamental core values is that we are UNAPOLOGETIC. We are unapologetic in our belief that the changes we seek require engagement and/or leadership by the Black community on behalf of the Black community. We believe that there is no greater group of folks that should lead this charge than the people that represent the community in which we seek to change. After nearly three years of not having grassroots advocacy efforts in the state, and particularly a Black-led organization, former Black Alliance for Educational Options staff members and parents have opted to form Black Alabamians for Education with the intent to continue to fully advocate on behalf of Black communities. While our engagement is intentional with Black families, we are inclusive of all families. We will ensure that Black families are informed about laws, policies and options available in Alabama that can and will assist in closing the achievement gap. If not Black Alabamians for Education, then who? We believe that parental engagement is at the heart of effective education. We want to connect the community and school and build a lasting foundation of involvement between parents and our educational institutions.
